Survey Research – Market and/or Policy-Related

JMK Associates has designed and analyzed many of the more important policy-related surveys in Hawai`i over the past few decades, particularly in regard to resident attitudes about tourism. We have also participated in market research in both the visitor and resident markets. We are not a data collection company, but have established relationships with several fielding organizations in Honolulu.

Selected Major Examples

1988-2006 Design and/or analysis of seven major statewide surveys – sponsored by the Hawai`i Tourism Authority and/or the Dept. of Business, Economic Development, and Tourism – to measure resident attitudes toward the state's largest economic activity. Samples ranged from 1,000 to nearly 4,000. We have more experience in this policy research area than any other organization in the state.

2004 “Native Hawaiian Community Survey” – A statewide survey of nearly 2,000 Native Hawaiian households, involving extensive examination of Hawaiian cultural and language practices, as well as demographic characteristics, household composition, and educational attainment. Prepared for the Kamehameha Schools.

2000 Attitudes Toward Honolulu Municipal Recreation Facilities . For PlanPacific, Inc. and Honolulu City Parks Dept., as part of City recreation master plan.

1995 Hawai`i Workplace Discrimination Surveys (3 interrelated studies). Two original surveys and one census survey analysis of Hawai`i workers on discrimination, harassment, and wage equity. These were done on a pro bono basis to provide benchmark measures for assessment of the extent to which ethnic or gender discrimination is present in the workplace.
